Man. I wish I was at Comic-Con.
And even more fan art from Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staple‘s new comic Saga from Image. If you haven’t yet read it, you have until April 11th to go and read the first issue before the next issue is out.
One of my favorite things about Saga is the Hazel’s narration. It’s definitely refreshing to see an artist (Fiona Staples) get to hand-write narration on their own work. To me, the narration feels like an additional character and helps guide the reader through both the story and the art.
On subsequent readings of Saga, it finally dawned on me what I was feeling every time I finished the book – the same feeling I got when I read Invincible #1 (way back) in high school – the excitement of fresh writing and art combining to form a huge ball of potential. Those of us lucky enough to be reading Saga from the beginning have the privalege to witness pure creation. It starts out as an idea, and ends up something more… a whole flippin’ universe. Not bad for $2.99 an issue. Go get it already, and ENJOY!
After attending the first EVER Image Comic Expo, I was inspired to do some fan-art for probably the greatest comic in the universe, Invincible. I decided to create minimalist versions of some of my favorite comics from the Invinci-world. See if you can identify them all! Detail/Close-ups in the Gallery. Enjoy! ~jsos
UPDATE 3/01/12: Part 2: with a bunch of villains and a few more heroes.
