A Closer Look: Neil Sedaka’s “Calendar Girl” 1961

“Calendar Girl”

I love, I love, I love my calendar girl
Yeah, sweet calendar girl
I love, I love, I love my calendar girl
Each and every day of the year

Great start! Catchy!

(January)
You start the year all fine

I get it, hah. MAYbe I’m on board with this concept again…

(June)
They’d let me take you to the junior prom

(July)
Like a firecracker
I’m aglow

Ok.

(August)
When you’re on the beach you steal the show

Not even trying anymore.

Yeah, yeah
My heart’s in a whirl
I love, I love, I love my little calendar girl
Every day (every day)
Every day (every day)
Of the year (every day of the year)

(September)
I light the candles at your sweet sixteen

(October)
Romeo and Juliet on Halloween

So you do know that it’s creepy.

(November)
I’ll give thanks that you belong to me

Sigh.

Star Trek Movie Rankings: The Indifinitive List – September 2016

It’s 2016. The 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.

Which raises the question: “Isn’t this website a defunct art blog?”

Short answer: Yes. But Inktober is coming up so I thought I’d get back into blogging/posting content on my website.

My friend jChris sent me this think-piece titled “The endless Star Trek franchise ages in reverse” by Jesse Hassenger, who identifies himself as a “not a true Trek fan at all.” (He’s only seen limited samplings of the TV shows) It was very fascinating to read how he ranked the films – especially the TNG cast films (Generations was dead last, Insurrection over First Contact). His reasoning makes sense in context but I knew after reading, I had to rank the Trek films myself. I was able to rank my top 8, because I could not in good conscious rank ones I haven’t seen or don’t remember that well.

I call my list the Indifinitive List for a reason: I want the rankings to change. Admittedly, I am biased towards TNG because it the first cast that I watched. The plan is to have my list evolve as I pit the Trek movies against each other as I watch and re-watch. At which point I’ll adjust my rankings and post it.

First up (see asterisks) is Search for Spock vs Generations. jChris thinks I ranked Generations higher because of TNG bias. I think he might be right.

Justin’s Trek Ranking – September 2016

  1. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982)
  2. Star Trek: First Contact (1996)
  3. Star Trek (2009)
  4. Star Trek Beyond (2016)
  5. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (1984)*
  6. Star Trek: Generations (1994) *
  7. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986)
  8. Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Needs Re-watch: I’ve seen the following, but need to refresh my memory.
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)
Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)

Need to Watch: I haven’t seen the ones below, or if I have, I don’t remember them.
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

PS – Do you use “PS” in blog posts? I don’t know, oh well

PPS – I realize now that I write that I am a TNG fan then go ahead an not rank 2 TNG movies. I’m a huge fan of the SHOW, but the last 2 TNG movies left a bitter taste in my mouth and I haven’t watched either in many years. I’ll rank them after I re-watch them reluctantly.
